Did anyone else have a crush on Buck?
But why did everyone dress like they were in the 1970's?
Retro, perhaps?

Was very very hot
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 12, 2022 2:27 AM |
First crush.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 12, 2022 2:58 AM |
It was the future, as imagined in the disco era of the 1970s.

He was so cute. Luckily he and Connie Selleca spawned.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 12, 2022 3:22 AM |
R5- She kind of looks like a DOLLED UP version of Mary Ellen from The Waltons
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 12, 2022 3:29 AM |
Ardala was super campy and sexy.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 12, 2022 3:54 AM |
Hmph. The series was hit-and-miss, mostly miss. To me, the only worthwhile episodes were ๐๐ง๐๐ก๐๐ข๐ง๐๐ ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐๐ง, with Jamie Lee Curtis, and ๐๐ก๐ ๐๐ฅ๐จ๐ญ ๐๐จ ๐๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐จ๐ฒ ๐ ๐๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ, ๐๐ญ๐ฌ ๐&๐, with Frank Gorshin. But best of all was ๐๐ฉ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ข๐ซ๐!
If you never saw another episode of 'Buck Rogers,' that was the one to see!
by Anonymous | reply 9 | February 12, 2022 5:45 AM |
Loved it as a child but it's largely unwatchable now. Boringly plotted, generic espionage plots, reused effects. Princess Ardala was fabulous though.

Correction to R9 - 'The Plot To Kill A City,' not 'destroy.'
by Anonymous | reply 11 | February 12, 2022 6:06 AM |
The original series from 1938 started airing last Saturday on TCM will the incredibly hot Buster Crabbe.

The son is gorgeous. Those eyes!
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 12, 2022 1:49 PM |
The opening and the closing music were the best part of the show. It was a crappy show in 1980 even to my 14 year old self.
Battle Star Galactica (1978) which premiered a year earlier had a late 1970's disco-ish aesthetic to it but was still a better show than Buck Rogers In The 25th Century.

Biddi-biddi-biddi
Thirsty-ass whores
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 12, 2022 6:19 PM |
Gil Gerard had a paunch on him from the beginning. He was fitted with restraining under garments to hold in his gut. Puny arms also.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 12, 2022 6:26 PM |
It's funny what passed for "hot" in those days. Lee Majors, Gil Gerard, Burt Reynolds and other out of shape men with beer bellies and double chins who looked perpetually hungover. But they were hunky sex symbols back then.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 12, 2022 6:29 PM |
Yes, early crush of mine. Very sexy guy. A lot of his Buck Rogers costumes, wow! really close fitting, hugging his big, sexy ass. Not to mention his balls. Surprised he didn't have a Tom Selleck size career. Anyway, gorgeous guy.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | February 12, 2022 6:32 PM |
Pamela Hensley was gorgeous. After Buck Rogers she co-starred on Matt Houston, then retired from acting and disappeared.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | February 12, 2022 6:36 PM |
The boyfriend and I rewatched these over the past year on Tubi. Fun to watch if you don't take them seriously. They never really explained why they shifted the action from Earth to a space ship and dumped two of main characters. I never thought Hawk added much to the series.

Twiki the penis headed robot was a little much.

She married super-producer E. Duke Vincent.

R21- They were all very MANLY and had natural manly bods but I would not say that someone like Lee Majors or Gil Gerard were overweight at all
In this photo Lee Majors has big bones but he has a totally flat stomach.

Gil Gerard was later in a short-lived sitcom called Sidekicks. He played a cop teamed up with a young, Asian, karate kid. At age 13ish, I loved it (and I loved Gil). ๐๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ
by Anonymous | reply 29 | February 12, 2022 7:49 PM |
I loved him all over again when he posted a few years ago that he wouldn't eat at Chick-fil-A because of their anti-gay stance.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | February 12, 2022 8:46 PM |
Gil looked like a big fat old man a few yrs ago
by Anonymous | reply 31 | February 12, 2022 8:49 PM |
Gil was so sexy.

The double episode with Julie Newmar was my fave. When she screamed as she burnt to death I got a massive thrill. I'd impatiently wait for that moment in reruns.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | February 13, 2022 12:52 AM |
I liked the opening and closing themes also.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | February 13, 2022 4:45 AM |
I watched the movie/pilot in the theater and the theme song at the beginning was the best part, if you ignore the nasty women rolling around.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | February 13, 2022 5:47 AM |
Lol R36, there were so many things wrong with that trailer.
The rocket they showed launching, didn't look anything like the ship that Buck Rogers was in.
And after 500 years being frozen, his bodily functions would have ceased to function in that severe cold. And he still would have aged, so he would have been DEAD in space.
But, um... okay. Whatever.

God how I miss the 70s and 80s. Great time to be a kid.

I much preferred the porno movie "Fuck Rogers."
by Anonymous | reply 39 | February 13, 2022 2:35 PM |
R38- The late 1970's was the last moment in time when the USA was truly WEALTHY. Our manufacturing began to fall apart beginning in 1980 and with it our high standard of living.

R40 is a riot at parties. ("Bring the realist!")
by Anonymous | reply 41 | February 13, 2022 2:44 PM |
I was too old to be watching it, but I never missed an episode because I had a strong need to see Gil Gerard.

R41- You're a regular RIOT Alice!
by Anonymous | reply 43 | February 13, 2022 3:47 PM |
Buck Rogers is one of those shows you liked as a kid but it's unwatchable when you're an adult. Really, really bad show.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | February 13, 2022 3:52 PM |
Tubi has taught me that many of the programs five -year -old me enjoyed were terrible. I have fond memories of enjoying Buck Rogers (as well as The Greatest American Hero, among others) yet I was only able to get through the pilot before giving up.
Erin Gray and Connie Sellecca were still gorgeous, yet their beauty was not enough to keep me watching that dreck.
In other news, I can watch old Columbo episodes over and over and over again....
by Anonymous | reply 46 | February 13, 2022 4:49 PM |
With the huge and unexpected success of Star Wars, everybody else in Hollywood wanted to cash in so sci-fi projects were hastily greenlit, and most of them were pretty bad and borrowed heavily from Star Wars. George Lucas actually sued the makers of Battlestar Galactica for ripping off several elements of SW, and Buck Rogers also ripped off SW, i.e. that stupid robot that looked like a big silver penis.

Yep agreed . The guys then looked real. Now they look like Ken dolls. Know which ones I prefer
by Anonymous | reply 48 | February 14, 2022 12:10 AM |
They looked like real out of shape slobs.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | February 14, 2022 1:08 AM |
There was nothing "out of shape" about Gil Gerard back in the day. He had the body of a real man. A real sexy man.
But, time is such a cruel bitch.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | February 14, 2022 1:13 AM |
Gil Gerard had a total dad bod, thick and flabby.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | February 14, 2022 1:18 AM |
Met Gil back in the late 90s at those comic shows they used to do at the Shrine every month or so.
Really nice guy. Very unassuming. He wasn't getting much business so I chatted him up awhile and told him as a kid I loved the show (yep...my fave was the Space Vampire to which he replied, "Mine, too"). Said he adored Wilma and the rest of the cast...especially guest stars Pamela, Julie Newmar, Dorothy Stratten...but Gary Coleman was "a little asshole." I asked about Sidekicks since I loved that one too and he said it was fun and a nice paycheck but never expected it to last since it was a "Karate Kid rip-off." But he fondly remembered the kid, Ernie.

R50- He's turned into an out of shape OLD MAN
just what ALL gay men fear
by Anonymous | reply 53 | February 14, 2022 1:44 AM |
I loved the episode where Dorothy Stratton was terrorised on a cruise ship by a bipolar lesbian.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | February 14, 2022 2:04 AM |
Dorothy was so excited to have a speaking role on a network show, she had a party the night it aired, but was quickly humiliated when her scenes began, and her voice had been dubbed by someone else. Poor girl.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | February 14, 2022 2:48 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 60 | February 14, 2022 4:10 AM |
Dorothy's voice was dubbed by Anne Lockhart who was Sheba in Battlestar Galactica.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | February 14, 2022 5:29 AM |
That is one of those old series you liked when you were young, but once your reached a certain age and were far more discerning you feel sad for the actors who were forced to work in such schlock. But for the money most of those people probably drove home from the set every day thinking "I'll never be taken seriously as an actor if I keep doing crap like this".
